Daphne is a microbiologist by training and currently works as a research fellow at Nanyang Technological University. She graduated from the National University of Singapore with a B.Sc. degree in Life Sciences and a PhD degree in Microbiology. Daphne is an expert in microbial physiology and has extensive experience in the biotechnological applications of microorganisms to mitigate the challenges of the 21 st century, such as global warming and the access to clean water. Daphne is also passionate about science education and communicating the wonders of Science outside academia. She won the 2 nd prize in the Asian Scientist Writing Competition 2017 and was one of the winners of the inaugural Asian Scientist Science Haiku Competition in 2016. When she is not at the laboratory bench, Daphne pens humorous thoughts and draws cartoons about life as a researcher.
