Healthcare Connection Night

Healthcare Connection Night in Singapore, hosted by KPMG and co-organized by Biotech Connection Singapore (BCS) and Singapore Healthcare Drinks (HCD), was an astounding success. The KPMG Clubhouse was packed to the brim with 120+ attendees, ranging from professionals in the pharmaceutical, biotech and medtech industry, to care providers and payers, to entrepreneurs, consultants and investors in the healthcare sector.

IGNite: A Fireside Chat With Ms. Jane Wang, CEO and Co-founder of Roceso Technologies

IGNite, short for Innovators Gathering Night, is a series of fireside chats with biotech and medtech innovators to find out what ignites their passion to innovate within their fields. Encouraged by the overwhelming responses we received in the two previous sessions featuring Dr. Murray Robinson and Mr. Abel Ang, we invited Ms. Jane Wang, CEO and Co-founder of Roceso Technologies to share with us what IGNites her passion in her medtech entrepreneurship journey. The chat was moderated by Mr. Chris L. Hardesty, Director of the KPMG’s Life Science Practice out of Singapore.

Case Competition Finals and APAC Healthcare Industry Panel Discussion

The Singapore Life Science Case Competition (SLSCC) ended on a high note with pitches from the top 4 finalists, a keynote speech on “Living Well, Dying Well: Prevention and Cure in the Healthcare Industry” and an exciting panel discussion on the current and future state of the healthcare industry in the Asia Pacific (APAC) region. Biotech Connection Singapore (BCS) and our co-organizers (L.E.K. Consulting and ESSEC Business School, Asia-Pacific) were heartened to see a great turnout of over 100 attendees at the Grand Amphitheatre of ESSEC Business School.

Translational Immunology

The era of cancer immunotherapy has come, offering a beacon of hope in our long, ongoing fight against this serious disease. Increased knowledge of the human immune system has been translated into exciting clinical solutions not only in cancer, but other disease areas as well. The objective of this interactive session on Translational Immunology is to provide a comprehensive overview of the immunotherapy landscape and to highlight successful immune modulation approaches in various diseases areas cancer, as well as in autoimmunity and infectious diseases.

Singapore Life Science Case Competition- consulting workshop

On 10 October 2018, participants of the inaugural Singapore Life Science Case Competition (SLSCC) gathered at ESSEC Business School, Asia Pacific for a networking session and training workshop conducted by L.E.K. Consulting associates. The SLSCC is the first of its kind in Singapore and is a great opportunity for participants to get a taste of what consulting is about. The participants consisted of undergraduates, PhD students and post-doctoral researchers in the biomedical field, business school students, and industry professionals in management and investment roles.

Translational Diabetes

In Singapore, there are over 400,000 people living with diabetes. Patients can develop complications, including cardiovascular disease, kidney disease, eye problems and foot ulcers. Diabetes cost Singapore more than S$1 billion in 2010 and is expected to soar to more than S$2.5 billion by 2050. Translational medicine is central to the goal of converting basic discoveries to diagnostic and therapeutic tools that can be harnessed to treat diseases and improve human health. In this panel discussion organized with the Eureka Institute of Translational Medicine on 7 August 2018, we focused on translational opportunities in diabetes.

It is also a platform for current and future innovators to meet and network, and ignite conversations leading to collaborative opportunities.

In our first IGNite event on 12 July 2018, jointly organised by BCS and A*START Central, we invited Dr. Murray Robinson, Chief Scientific Officer of MediSix Therapeutics, to join us for a fireside chat to find out what ignites his passion in the biotech field and how he embarked on his journey in innovation and entrepreneurship.

Introduction to Translational Medicine

Translational medicine is central to the goal of converting basic discoveries to diagnostic and therapeutic tools that can be harnessed to treat disease and improve human health. The field of translational medicine is multidisciplinary, encompassing molecular medicine, intellectual property, financing, regulation, preclinical and clinical trial studies, among others. This is our first event of a series on translational medicine in collaboration with Eureka Institute of Translational Medicine.
