Gut microbiota help limit Type 1 Diabetes by regulating Cathelicidin levels

Our body is home to over a trillion microbes called microbiota and houses 10 times more bacteria than cells! While many among these are beneficial to our health, some bacteria known as pathogens can cause infectious diseases, especially when the body’s immune system is compromised. Researchers from Inserm, Paris Descartes University and the CNRS (French National Centre for Scientific Research), through collaboration with teams from China and Sweden, have recently shown how microbiota protects against the development of type 1 diabetes. The research findings were published in the journal Immunity.
