Siang Yun ANG, President

Research Fellow, Institute of Medical Biology (IMB), A*STAR

Siang Yun attained her B.Sc. in Biochemistry at University of Wisconsin-Madison and her Ph.D. in Biomedical Sciences at University of California-San Francisco. In San Francisco, she took intellectual property courses with UCSF Entrepreneurship Center and worked as an investment analyst team leader for Evexia Bio Fund, which invests in biotech stocks based on understanding the underlying science. She is passionate about the business aspects of scientific research, and hopes to contribute to Singapore’s growing biotech community. Outside of work, she also enjoys snowboarding and scuba diving.

Yvonne KOH, Vice-President

Scientist, TNR Diagnostics

Yvonne graduated from the University of Illinois (Urbana Champaign) and subsequently completed her PhD in Microbiology at the University of Wisconsin –Madison. Yvonne is experienced in developing and commercializing molecular diagnostic products. She has a keen interest in educating and communicating scientific ideas to the. Outside of science, she enjoys swing dancing and a good cardio workout.

Larry Sai Weng LOO, Marketing and PR Lead (Outreach)

PhD candidate, Institute of Molecular and Cell Biology (IMCB), A*STAR

Larry graduated from University of Bradford UK and subsequently completed his M.Sc at NTU-A*STAR Bioprocessing Technology Institute (BTI). Currently, he is a PhD candidate at A*STAR Institute of Molecular and Cell Biology (IMCB) under the A*STAR Graduate Scholarship. He is investigating on utilizing pluripotent stem cells in Diabetes mellitus treatment. Having a genuine passion for Biotech/MedTech startups, he has participated in the Singapore Stanford Biodesign Innovation class and LKCMedicine Bioentrepreneurship course. Putting his new found business knowledge to use, he and his team have won the 2nd place (Most Original Idea) in the inaugural A*STAR-P&G Biotechnology Young Entrepreneurship Scheme (YES) Competition 2016 and also the 1st prize in the NTU-Quintiles Challenge 2016. Larry hopes to meet like-minded individuals so as to promote a thriving bioentrepreneurial ecosystem in Singapore. Outside of work, he enjoys doing volunteering work, backpacking and hiking to witness the beauty of Mother Nature.

Seng Koon LIM, Marketing and PR Lead (Media)

Patent Examiner, Intellectual Property Office of Singapore (IPOS)

Seng Koon currently works as a Patent Examiner at IPOS and has examined more than 130 patent applications across various biotechnology, pharmaceutical and medical technology sectors. He graduated from Nanyang Technological University (NTU) with a B.Sc. (1st Class Hons) in Biological sciences, attained his PhD from NTU School of Materials science & Engineering, and later obtained a Graduate Certificate in Intellectual Property Law (GCIP) from NUS Law School and IP Academy in 2016. He has over 7 years experience with biosensors, soft materials, molecular biology, peptide drugs and stem cells research. He is interested in multidisciplinary research, IP protection and their technology commercialization. Outside work, he also serves as Advisory Board member of Biomedical Engineering Society of Singapore, Industry Chapter.

Sharon

Sharon GOH, Event Lead

Research Fellow, Singapore Immunology Network (SIgN), A*STAR

Sharon obtained her B.Sc. in Biochemistry from Imperial College London and pursued her PhD in Immunology at Stanford University. For her PhD studies, she investigated the importance of immune system in regeneration and metabolic disease. Currently, she is working on developing immunotherapeutics for anti-cancer purposes at A*STAR. Sharon hopes to engage the scientific community to promote a vibrant life sciences ecosystem.

Fong Ming KOH, Event Lead

Research Fellow, Institute of Molecular and Cell Biology (IMCB), A*STAR

Fong Ming graduated from the University of California, San Diego with a B.S. in Molecular Biology, and received his Ph.D. in Biomedical Sciences from the University of California, San Francisco. He is a mouse geneticist and developmental biologist by training, and has extensive experience working with both embryonic and induced pluripotent stem cells. Fong Ming is interested to help bridge the gap between academic and industrial research, and hopes to make a difference by increasing awareness in the scientific community about Singapore's biotech industry.

Franklin graduated from University of Cambridge with a degree in Natural Sciences and completed his doctoral studies at Stanford University. Franklin has extensive experience in cancer biology, human genetics and immunology. He is currently working as a research scientist at the Institute of Medical Biology, Singapore.

Si Hui TAN, Consulting Lead

Si Hui obtained her BSc in Biochemistry at University of Wisconsin-Madison, and her PhD in Cancer Biology at Stanford University. Si Hui's scientific interests lie in understanding how adult stem cells are regulated, and their contribution to cancer and diseases. She is enthusiastic about translating scientific knowledge and ideas to the public, and fostering communication within the bioentrepreneur field.

Ser Yeng
 

Ser Yeng LER, Senior Consultant

Assistant Director (Technology Development), NTUitive Pte Ltd

Ser Yeng obtained both her Bachelor and PhD in Biological Sciences from Nanyang Technological University. During the second year of her PhD programme, she was awarded the Commonwealth Scholarship to pursue a four-month research programme at University of Alberta. She believes in lifelong learning and always works towards bettering herself in different aspects of her life. After her PhD, she obtained a Specialist Diploma in Clinical Trial Management from Nanyang Polytechnic and completed the Singapore-Stanford Biodesign innovation course and Singapore-MIT Alliance for Research and Technology (SMART) Innovation Fellowship program. As the Assistant Director in technology development, she works closely with the clinicians to understand the clinical needs and explore research opportunities in developing new medical technologies. During her free time, she enjoys practicing yoga, networking and learning new languages. She has working proficiency in French and limited proficiency in Signing Exact English. In the near future, she hopes to gain proficiency in German.
